This class will touch upon all aspects of screenwriting. From concept development, character design, structure, format, and even what to do after you have finished your script.

The teacher, Geoffrey D. Calhoun, is listed as a top 100 independent screenwriter and author of The Guide For Every Screenwriter, which is a Top 16 screenwriting book by Screencraft. Geoffrey believes in a practical approach to the craft, and everyone has a writer inside of them.

This class will provide you with easy to follow templates which will allow your inner writer to blossom. This class will not just be a discussion on theory or a lesson in history. Instead, you will be actively creating a story with each section taught alongside your instructor.

By the end, you will have written your very own short script guided by Geoffrey and have something ready to be filmed or worthy of a contest. Each class is one hour long with a 30-minute Q and A.

Week 1
Development: Create a concept, discover your theme, build the characters for your story, and finish with a compelling logline. Geoffrey will work with students individually, helping them craft each of these essential building blocks to a great screenplay.

Week 2
Structure: Working together, the students and Geoffrey will weave a fascinating story as we move through the beats of his 9-point outline. From there, we will craft all the subplots needed to create a powerful story full of conflict.

Week 3
Format: Working with screenwriting software, Geoffrey will walk the students through formatting. He will not only cover the basics of the software but also, relay tips and tricks on how to write a screenplay which is fun and engaging to read. He will deliver tried and true ways to grab a reader and make them become lost in your story. Geoffrey will discuss topics such as how to write a fast-moving script, realistic dialogue, and subtext.

Week 4
Final Class: Geoffrey will discuss what comes next after writing your script. He will discuss how to brand yourself as a writer, how to bring attention to your work, and the proper way to network. In this class, you will bring your final script for a table read as well. Feedback and notes are provided by Geoffrey as well as a final Q & A session. Certificates will be awarded to graduating students.
